Renunciation of Jamaican Citizenship

Persons who decide to renounce their Jamaican citizenship should be of full age and capacity, either a national of a foreign country or has been assured of such nationality on the condition that he/she renounces Jamaican Nationality.

The Procedure

The applicant must complete the Declaration of Renunciation of Citizenship Form in triplicate (3) and sign in the presence of a Notary Public, Justice of the Peace, Commissioner of Oaths or a Consular Officer at the Jamaican High Commission in Ottawa or the Consulate General of Jamaica in Toronto.

The application should be submitted along with the following original documents:

  • Birth Certificate/Adoption Certificate/Citizenship Certificate
  • Jamaican Passport
  • Valid ID of applicant
  • Evidence of other nationality (citizenship certificate, passport or official letter of assurance or promise of other nationality) to ensure the person does not become stateless.
  • Two (2) certified passports sized photographs of the applicant, taken not more than 6 months prior to the application.  The photographs can be certified by a Notary Public, a Commissioner of Oaths or Consular Officer at the Jamaican High Commission in Ottawa or the Consulate General of Jamaica in Toronto.

Processing Fee: CAD $1,100.00.

Compliant applications will be prepared for submission within twenty four (24) months.
